Markku Komonen

Markku Komonen is Professor of Architecture and Public Building Design at Helsinki University of Technology. He is also Chairman of the Board for the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Chairman of the Board for the Raimo Utriainen Art Foundation.

Markku Komonen has received several prestigious awards including the Aga Khan Award for Islamic Architecture in 2001; the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal, Germany in 2003; and the Quaternario Prize for Innovative Technology in Architecture, Italy; and was made Honorary Fellow of the Union of American Architects.

In practice with fellow architect Mikko Heikkinen, his many architectural projects include: Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre; the European Film College, Denmark; the Finnish Embassy, Washington D.C., USA; School of Poultry Farmers, Guinea and the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Science and Genetics, Dresden, Germany.
